Planet Shakers is also the contemporary worship music band,
a central part of Planetshakers Church in Melbourne, Australia.
With over 30 internationally acclaimed albums, the band tours annually to the US, UK, Europe,
South Africa, Asia, South America, Australia and also New Zealand, and has seen a lot of success
having been nominated for multiple Dove Awards.
Formed in Adelaide for the first Planetshakers Conference in 1997,
the band has a goal to spread contemporary worship music worldwide.
They are now based in Melbourne at Planetshakers Church,
under the leadership of Senior Pastors Russell and also Sam Evans.
The 2002 Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian is also a former member of the band,
taking both lead and backup vocal parts on the 2002 and 2003 albums and conferences.
It was reported in 2008 that Michael Guglielmucci, former bass player in the Planetshakers band,
had fraudulently claimed he was dying of cancer.
During this time Guglielmucci also received money from supporters who believed his illness was real.
Guglielmucci wrote the “Healer” song for the album “Saviour of the World” released in June 2007.
“Healer” is a song of encouragement for believers who were suffering from cancer.
Guglielmucci explained his actions as being a result of a long-term pornography addiction.
